The Dawn of The Dust Shuttle
“What the hell do you do with that…?”
When people hear you majored in Philosophy it’s fair for them to ask, “What the hell do you do with that…?”
My name is Bryce and my answer is I sell chairs.
Sometimes ottomans too. Along with pottery, art, couches, glass, and light-up space helmets with astronauts trapped inside.
I started finding and selling vintage objects as a side gig when I was 15. Thirteen years later I do it full-time, and in 2021 I launched The Dust Shuttle, a traveling antique store that my best friend and I drove around the country for two months straight.
Why this?
It’s always been difficult for me to settle on one interest. That’s why I majored in philosophy. If you can’t decide on one thing, choose a field that lets you study them all, right?
But I don’t think the ultimate goal is just to have a lot of interests. It’s to take all those interests and bind them up into something cohesive, something that’s uniquely yours because it’s built of what’s uniquely you. The Dust Shuttle is a pursuit towards that ideal.
I love storytelling and I love travel, which is why I love vintage stuff. It’s about both the history of the items and the stories behind finding them. You meet people along the way. You end up in places you’d never expect to be. It all becomes part of the fun and part of the items themselves.
The combination of these interests forms the ethos of the Shuttle.
What’s the substack for?
I want to share stories from our travels, remark on life as an entrepreneur, and document this adventure so I can look back on it in the future. I make videos on tiktok and instagram too, but this format is a little more familiar to me.
If you come along for the ride you can expect:
Entertaining stories from the road
Photos of what we buy and sell
Reflections on running a business
Monthly recaps on life at The Dust Shuttle
I hope you’ll stick around.
Until next time,
See ya~!
Love this papa
Think of Bryce as the Marco Polo of furniture 😃 I’ve been watching his travels for years. You’ll want to ride along 👍
